The Chairman of the Council of The Bar of Ireland, David Barniville SC, has welcomed the announcement by Government today that it intends to develop a new, integrated Family Law and Children’s Courts at Hammond Lane in Dublin.

Announced today under the Government’s Infrastructure and Capital Investment Programme, the new Courts Complex will also include additional Court rooms for the Supreme Court and other Courts offices.

Chairman of the Council of The Bar of Ireland David Barniville SC, said the investment is badly needed; “We greatly welcome the commitment from Minister Fitzgerald today to progress the development of a new, dedicated Family Law and Children’s Courts building at Hammond Lane. This is a long overdue and badly needed investment in the Courts infrastructure and its location within the well-established Legal Quarter in Dublin 7 is particularly appropriate. Some of the most vulnerable people in our society use the Family Law and Children’s Courts in what can be very stressful circumstances, and they are deserving of the modern and accessible facilities that will hopefully be provided by this welcome development,” he said.
