Pro-bono & Voluntary
I am the CEO and Founder of an organisation called The Countess which I founded in 202o to protect the legal rights of women to their own services and spaces and to promote child safeguarding as well as the rights of parents and the LGB community. I never intended to become an activist but I felt compelled to act when a dangerous sexual predator was sent to the womens’ wing of Limerick prison on foot of a piece of paper, a gender recognition certificate, declaring him to be a female. He has since admitted in open Court to threatening to rape and torture a female inmate and a female guard. I have drafted legislation The Gender Recognition ( Amendment) (Prisons) Bill 2023 to unlatch the effect of the scope of the gender recognition certificate Gender Recognition Act s.18 from the Prison rules thereby ending the practise of placing men who say there are women in female prison in line with the recent apex decision of our neighbouring jurisdiction which ruled that a gender recognition certificate does not change one’s sex in respect of equality legislation and the protective rights that reside in the gender ground exemptions.
