Gerard is a junior counsel with over 20 years experience, practising predominantly in Dublin and on the Midland Circuit.

He has a broad practice covering:

  • criminal defence;
  • tort and personal injury;
  • general common law (contracts, property, employment);
  • probate (wills, powers of attorney); and
  • equity (injunctions, specific performance).

An experienced courtroom advocate, Gerard is often asked to provide expert tuition in courtroom advocacy to colleagues in Ireland and internationally. He is a member of the Bar Council Faculty of Advanced Advocacy.

In a voluntary capaity Gerard has served the Bar Council as a Circuit Liaison Officer (2014-2017), as a member of the GDPR Steering Group (2017-2018), as a representative at an EU Council Meeting in Brussels (2019), and as an instructor in Advanced Advocacy (2018-date).

The nature of Gerard’s civil practice is such that most cases settle and are thus not reported and most of his criminal practice is circuit-based and again reported judgments are not available.
