The Adrian Hardiman Moot Competition made a much-anticipated return this spring, reaffirming its place as a cornerstone event for junior members of The Bar of Ireland.

The 2025 Adrian Hardiman Moot Competition
Open to barristers in Years 1 to 5 of practice, the competition spans four rounds and continues to foster excellence in legal advocacy and debate and is kindly supported by the family of the late Mr. Justice Adrian Hardiman, whose legacy continues to inspire excellence in legal debate and advocacy skills among young barristers. The winning team receive the Adrian Hardiman Perpetual Trophy and also will receive their Law Library subscription fees for next year.

Showcasing Excellence in Advocacy
This year, 13 teams took part in the competition, showcasing exceptional advocacy throughout the preliminary rounds. The final round, featuring the top two teams, took place on 4 July in the Supreme Court and was a closely contested final.
The judging panel—comprising Ms. Justice Dunne, Ms Justice O’Malley, and Mr Justice Collins—commended both finalist teams for the exceptional standard of advocacy demonstrated throughout the proceedings.

Congratulations to this year’s winners Gemma McLoughlin-Burke BL and Seán Beatty BL who claimed a narrow victory over the team of Laurenz Boss BL and Thea Kennedy BL.
