Soldiers and Law in the Irish Revolution’ - lecture in the Four Court
The Courts Centenary Commemoration Committee continues its lecture series on Thursday 26th March 2015 in the Round Hall, Four Courts, Inns Quay, Dublin 7 at 5 p.m.
The speaker will be Professor Charles Townshend, Professor of International History at Keele University. His many acclaimed publications include Easter 1916: The Irish Rebellion and The Republic: The fight for Irish Independence. The lecture will include an analysis of the approach of the authorities to the trials of the rebels in 1916 and how the martial law regime of 1920 to 1921 set up a conflict between law and what was perceived as the need for order. Calcutta Run 2014
Some of the members of the Bar who took part in the 2014 Calcutta Run on Saturday 17th May, which raised funds for Fr Peter McVerry and homelessness in Calcutta. Over 1,000 runners took part in this year’s event, which saw runners and walkers follow a 10k and 5k route from Blackhall Place through the Phoenix Park.

The winners of the inaugural Bar Council Human Rights Award were two Irish Rule of Law International lawyers Ruth Dowling BL and Eithne Lynch, “whose legal work has made a profound change in the rights and wellbeing of those without a voice.”
